Science Fair Judging

The spring season brings science fairs to the region, which showcase the talent and aspirations of the remarkable students in our schools. The Washington Statistical Society has traditionally provided invaluable community support to these important events by nominating and sending delegations of official judges, issue WSS awards to the winners, and invite them to the WSS annual dinner event to meet with other professionals.

Judging

WSS participation depends on securing at least 2 volunteers. Volunteer Judges commit between 2 and 4 hours on the day of the event (morning hours) to evaluate and score student projects across multiple disciplines (math, physics, biomedical engineering, computer science, etc.). If you are interested in serving as a Science Fair Judge through the WSS or would like to know more, please contact Denisse Olarte at olarte.denisse@gmail.com .

Volunteer Judges may choose to participate in multiple fairs (but should disclose if a student relative is participating).

Volunteers should have a master's degree or higher in Statistics or a related field; no prior judging experience is required.

An orientation session will be provided before the fair.
